The Japan Week, an important section of the 13th Shanghai International Film Festival opened yesterday at the Shanghai World Financial Center. A total of 11 recent acclaimed film productions from Japan will be offered at local theaters during the festival.
The film week also gathers top-notched Japanese film makers and actors including award-winning director Yojiro Takita, popular actress Takako Tokiwa and young heartthrob Ichihara Hayato.
"There has been a long tradition of film exchange between our two countries," said La Peikang, an official from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television. "All the 11 movies covering many varied genres and subjects will provide an insight into the Japanese culture and society."
According to Yutaka Yokoi, consul general of Japan in Shanghai, more than 40,000 Japanese people now reside in Shanghai. The city has become a significant cultural exchange center.
"Fireworks from the Heart," a heartwarming picture about family bond was the film week\'s opening film. It was also the film\'s global premiere.
"Listen to My Heart," in which Takako Tokiwa plays a DJ reflects that people are losing their abilities to speak out love and to communite in this fast-paced society.
"Sanpei the Fisher Boy," which is based on a cartoon work encourages the young generation to pursue their dreams while "Awa Dance," the Japanese counterpart to "High School Musical" shows how globalization influences the regional culture and traditions.
Before the film screening, local movie fans also have chance to talk with the stars in short Q and A section.
