As an important part of this year’s 赌博app Sci-Fi Film Week, the Science and Film Fusion Forum was held on the afternoon of June 11. The participants believed that sci-fi films are the product of the fusion of science and film and that it is necessary to establish a strong science-consultant team for sci-fi films and cultivate filmmakers with basic understanding of sci-fi films to shoulder the mission of localizing sci-fi films in the future.
Sci-fi films need to build a strong science-consultant team
Many movie-goers know that THE WANDERING EARTH 2 hired more than 20 scientific consultants to ensure its accuracy. Now, a science-consultant team has become a standard part of China’s sci-fi film crews, and is getting more and more attention.
Associate Professor Cui Yuanhao served as the scientific consultant for THE WANDERING EARTH 2 and the academic director and advisor for THE AGE OF INTELLIGENCE. He said that the scientific logic of sci-fi movies is very important, and their creation must be based on the existing scientific foundations. For example, the logic of THE WANDERING EARTH was based on the deduction of the real world at the beginning. Therefore, whether science and technology can be accurately presented has become an important factor for the tenability of sci-fi movies, where the science-consultant team will play a vital role in their professional field.

According to Lin Yuzhi, executive deputy director of the Science and Film Exchange Professional Committee of China Popular Science Writers Association, science is the foundation of sci-fi movies, science and film complement each other, and the authenticity of science affects the aesthetics of movies. No matter how imaginative the sci-fi filmmakers are, their understanding of science itself is far less than that of scientists, so they need the strong support of scientists.
Now there is a view that scientific consultants to sci-fi movies will hinder the production of them and be detrimental to artistic creation. Lin Yuzhi doesn't see it that way. He believes that art itself is unconstrained, while science is down-to-earth, and the consultant team is to implement the director's "unconstrained" ideas and provide reasonable explanations. A sci-fi movie that lacks a rigorous attitude towards science cannot talk about sci-fi aesthetics.

Zhang Li, a producer at Mahua FunAge and the producer of MOON MAN, also said that "friction" with the science-consultant team during the film production process is normal. During the filming of MOON MAN, the science-consultant team found the "one-way communication between the earth and the moon" in the plot unreasonable. They decisively stopped the filming and provided a rational explanation for the plot through recalculation based on a scientific basis.

The localization of sci-fi movies is the future trend
Ma Ping, deputy general manager of China Film Studio, deputy director of High Technology Committee of China Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (CSMPTE), director, producer, and visual director, said that THE WANDERING EARTH franchise has evolved from the paradigm of Western sci-fi films into a made-in-China one. This not only means that the technology of many sci-fi movies has been localized, but also means that Chinese elements and stories have actually become the core of the movies.
"The localization of sci-fi movies is the future trend." Ma Ping said, adding that only when they are truly localized can Chinese sci-fi movies have their own place in world cinema. However, the localization of sci-fi films is predicated on talents. It requires not only local technical and artistic talents, but also local talents in various other fields to form a joint force to truly realize the localization of sci-fi films.

Writer and producer Stanley Qiufan Chen made it clear that those who make sci-fi films must have a solid sci-fi foundation. Only in this way can they truly strike a balance between reality and imagination.

Ji Shaoting, the founder and CEO of Future Affairs Administration, is very confident in the talent cultivation and talent pool for local sci-fi films in the future. "If you go to some scientific research institutes and some R&D units now, you will find that many young people there are sci-fi fans. In the film industry, many directors and producers are also true science lovers," Ji Shaoting said, "For example, Guo Fan, the director of THE WANDERING EARTH, is doing research every day, and these young people are committed to transforming scientific and technological achievements into stories and integrating them into their own creations." In Ji Shaoting's view, these young filmmakers are the true hope for the localization of sci-fi films in China.

Producer and CEO of Storycom, Zhang Yiwen said that the key to cultivating sci-fi talents is to consolidate the science and technology foundation and create a pro-science atmosphere. This is the mission of many filmmakers, scientists, and science bloggers. "They have made the development of science and technology accessible to ordinary people, no longer as unattainable as before." Zhang Yiwen said that the development of science and technology has given the younger generation an advantage, allowing them to use various media to spread science facts.
